Job Description

The Systems Engineer Trainee: Database & Middleware supports the installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of database and middleware environments under the guidance of senior engineers and team leaders.

The role is designed to develop practical technical skills in database administration, middleware platforms, application servers, and messaging technologies while providing operational support to ensure the availability, performance, security, and reliability of enterprise applications and data services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database management systems under supervision.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of middleware platforms, including application and web servers.
  • Perform routine database and middleware monitoring and escalate identified issues to the appropriate senior engineer or team leader.
  • Assist with routine maintenance activities, health checks, patching, and software upgrades in accordance with approved procedures and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Assist in troubleshooting database, middleware, application server, and messaging-related issues and participate in root cause analysis.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and resource utilization and report potential issues before they result in service disruption.
  • Assist with database backup, recovery, and routine database administration activities as assigned.
  • Assist with the administration and monitoring of middleware and messaging platforms, including Oracle WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, Apache HTTP Server, MQ, RabbitMQ, and related technologies.
  • Assist with implementing approved changes, following established change management and operational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including configuration records, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and support records.
  • Work with development, infrastructure, security, and other technical teams to support the integration and operation of applications and services.

Participate in technical training, knowledge-sharing sessions, and hands-on learning activities to develop expertise in database and middleware technologies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience Required

  • 0–2 years of experience in database administration, middleware, application support, or related technical environments.
  • Basic understanding of relational database concepts and SQL.
  • Basic understanding of database technologies such as Oracle Database, MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Basic understanding of middleware and application server technologies such as Oracle WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, or WildFly.
